Oxford United coach Matt Bloomfield said the club wanted to “pay their respects in the best way possible” following the death of an academy player.
Teenager Amelia Aplin collapsed during a match against Fulham at the club’s training center in Horsespat on Saturday afternoon before tragically passing away.
The United States observed a moment of silence before kick-off during Wednesday’s Championship match against Blackburn Rovers, with applause during the 15th minute.
Both teams walked away without music before kick-off, with the Bloomfield side claiming a 1-0 win over their relegation rivals.
“Amelia was in our hearts tonight,” Bloomfield told BBC Radio Oxford.
“I really wanted to do the evening justice with our performance. Nothing can replace what her poor parents went through this weekend and what they have lost.
“But we wanted as a football club to pay our respects in the best way possible, respectfully off the pitch and then try to put in a performance on the pitch that will hopefully make some people smile this evening.”
