📌 **What You’ll Learn**:
I can easily shake the Six Nations losses that have stuck with me, as they can take you to a really dark place sometimes.
Scotland 2000, Ireland 2001, France 2002 – they are still hurting.
It is now important to take stock and remember that this will happen again in the lead-up to the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
England will be licking their wounds after another crushing defeat to Scotland, but even if a potential grand slam disappears, they still have one to play for.
The opportunity to win a Grand Slam title doesn’t come around very often, that’s the reality.
I said last week that it would be foolish to draw a straight line from the opening weekend to a Grand Slam playoff in Paris.
This tournament is magical for exactly that reason.
Two wins and England will be in a position to go to Paris and perhaps try to win the tournament.
There is a lot to focus on and be excited about, and Murrayfield’s pain will make England a better team.
Big away wins are not easy in the Six Nations, and Saturday is another day that has eluded Steve Borthwick.
It’s not just about winning at another stadium, because the World Cup is being held on neutral soil in Australia.
It’s about feeling different outside of the Twickenham environment and comforts of home.
Although the 12-match winning streak has been impressive, England still need a South African mentality – wherever they go in the world, they will be expected to win and achieve global success.
Borthwick is yet to travel to Scotland, Ireland or France in the Six Nations and win.
Most adversity comes from playing away from home, and Saturday gave England’s players more of those scenarios.
They are unlikely to win the World Cup without a complete away win beforehand.
