Matt Weston had an incredible run to make further history in Cortina as he became the first Briton to win two gold medals at a Winter Olympics with a thrilling victory in the mixed team skeleton event alongside Tabitha Stoecker.
Stoeker-Weston was given a difficult task, as she recorded a time of one minute and 00.77 seconds, 0.30 seconds ahead of her German competitor, while the British pair, ranked first in the classification and last, were starting.
But Weston, who stormed to gold on Friday – the first medal for a Great Britain team at the Games – showed why he is the world’s best skeleton racer with a stunning 58.59-second run to claim his second Games victory.
It is the first time Great Britain has won three gold medals at a single Winter Olympics after Charlotte Banks and Hugh Nightingale won mixed team snowboard gold earlier on Sunday.
The second British team, Marcus White and Freya Tarbet, missed out on a medal by 0.01 seconds as the German teams of Christopher Grotheer, Jacqueline Pfeiffer, Axel Jungk and Susanne Kreher took silver and bronze respectively.
