Kilmarnock suffered after the departure of Kyle Vassell, Danny Armstrong and Fraser Murray in the summer, but McCann says he did not ask for any guarantees on new signings.
“I can’t impose that on Kilmarnock now,” he said.
“I have to look at this as what we have at our disposal now, to show that we can coach and manage this group to the point where they start winning games again.
“Yes, we hope to get people involved. The board has assured me they will work to do that. But there are no guarantees that will happen.”
McCann described the meeting with Livingston as a “huge match”, but stressed that it is not more important than any other match between now and the end of the season.
“It’s three points,” he said. “I’m not looking at the table now and thinking this is a must-win game.
“Everyone, our fans, will say it’s a must-win game. I understand the importance of that.
“But every three points, as Dundee have proven in the last three games, can make that difference no matter who you play.
“Whether there are teams around you, or whether they are teams at the top of the table, it’s the same three points. It’s the same level of performance you have to put in to get those three points.
“So I look at it as a new table now.”
