✅ **What You’ll Learn**:

Meta’s AI app saw a big jump in installs following the Wednesday launch of the company’s latest AI model, Muse Spark, the first model release under the leadership of Alexandr Wang, the head of Meta’s Superintelligence Labs who was brought on from Scale AI last year to overhaul the social giant’s AI efforts.

According to new data from market intelligence provider Appfigures, consumer demand for Meta AI has lifted the app from No. 57 just before Muse Spark’s launch on Wednesday to No. 5 in the US App Store on Thursday — a move that signals a flood of new installs.

Meta says its new AI model, available on both web and mobile, represents a significant upgrade over previous Llama 4 models. It’s also the company’s latest attempt to catch up with competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic, an effort that has already cost Meta billions of dollars in hiring AI talent, on top of its $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI.

Currently, Muse Spark accepts multimedia input, including audio, text, and images, and is designed to perform well at a number of tasks, such as helping people learn about their health and think through complex questions in fields like science and mathematics. It can also assist with visual coding, allowing users to create websites and mini-games through prompts.

Additionally, the company said Meta AI is capable of launching multiple sub-agents to handle user questions.

The model will be rolled out to other platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and Meta’s AI glasses, in the coming weeks.

Along with the model launch, the Meta AI mobile app and website have been upgraded with a new look and feel, and now allow users to switch between modes depending on the task.

Despite recent growth, Meta AI still lags behind AI-powered chatbots from other top model makers, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT (No. 1), Anthropic’s Claude (No. 2), and Google’s Gemini (No. 3).

Wang noted the new high rating in a post on X earlier on Thursday, and noted that the app is “still growing.”

Appfigures data indicates that the Meta AI app has been installed a total of 60.5 million times worldwide across both the App Store and Google Play, with 25 million downloads occurring this year alone.

Over the past five months, Meta AI app downloads have increased by 138% compared to the first five months of the app’s availability.

India is now Meta AI’s largest market in terms of downloads, followed by the US, Brazil, Pakistan and Mexico, according to Appfigures.
