Meta quietly launches encrypted gaming app Pocket

Meta is getting into the gaming space by launching a new app called Pocket, which allows people to create small, interactive apps and games using AI prompts. The software, the result of Meta’s acquisition of token gaming platform team Gizmo earlier this year, describes itself as a “creative platform for making and sharing gadgets,” so-called interactive experiences. It also provides a scrollable feed where you can play with tools made by others.

Based on screenshots of the app in Google Play, there are many similarities to the original Gizmo app, which is still listed. Like Pocket, Gizmo also offers a way to use written AI prompts to build small interactive experiences, and includes a discovery brief.

Alessandro Paluzzi, a reverse engineer and regular observer of new apps and features, first noticed the app’s launch this morning and posted a Play Store screenshot of the app on the (Because the software is new, the company can’t tell if it hasn’t seen any downloads yet.)

Other outlets, including Business Insider and Investing.com, also reported Paluzzi’s discovery. Meta has not yet responded to a request for comment.

Pocket is another example of Meta’s push to make AI creation tools more widespread, expanding on its previous efforts, which included AI-generated photos created via the Meta AI app, and AI videos created using its app called Vibes. It has also added AI features across its social platforms and in its video editing app for creators, Edits.

Since the Meta has not officially announced Pocket’s debut, it is likely that Pocket is still in its initial beta phase.

However, its Gizmo counterpart has racked up 635,000 lifetime installs across both iOS and Google Play, according to Appfigures, which notes it has 98% positive sentiment.
