✅ Here’s what you’ll learn:

Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson said he narrowly escaped a fatal crash during the Mexico City Grand Prix on Sunday after two marshals ran across the track in front of him.

The accident occurred on lap three when marshals were seen on the track as Lawson returned to the race after an early stop to replace the front wing.

Shortly afterwards, Racing Bulls’ Lawson said over the team radio to his race engineer: “Are you kidding me? Did I just see that? I could have… killed them.”

He added after the race: “Honestly, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

“[I] Came out on a new set hard [tyres]And then I got to the first turn and there were only two guys running across the track.

“I almost hit someone, honestly, it was very dangerous.

“Obviously there was a misunderstanding somewhere, but I’ve never encountered that before, and I haven’t really seen that in the past. It’s completely unacceptable.”

“We cannot understand how live track marshals could be allowed to run across the track in this way. I have no idea why, I’m sure we will get some sort of explanation, but it really can’t happen again.”

The FIA, Formula 1’s governing body, is investigating the circumstances.

The FIA said: “After the first turn accident, the race management was informed of the presence of debris on the track at the top of that turn.”

“On lap three, the marshals were alerted and were on standby to enter the track and retrieve the wreckage once all the cars had passed.

“Once it became clear that Lawson had stopped, instructions to send marshals were canceled and a double yellow flag was raised in that area.

“We are still investigating what happened after that point.”
