Michail Antonio is set to sign a short-term contract with Qatar’s Al Sailiya before returning to football after being involved in a car accident that almost claimed his life.
The former West Ham striker has been training with Charlton Athletic and has held exploratory talks with the Championship club over a pay-for-play deal.
But the 35-year-old is set to sign with Qatar Stars League club Al Sailiya until the end of the season, which has six matches remaining.
Its move to the Middle East is advanced with confirmation expected in the coming days.
Antonio has not played any official match in England since he was involved in an accident in December 2024, which resulted in him suffering multiple leg fractures.
He participated with Jamaica in the CONCACAF Gold Cup last June, but West Ham released him before the current season.
The Hammers’ all-time Premier League top scorer held talks with Brentford and Leicester City over proposed transfers but those deals did not materialise.
Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has also said he is considering signing Antonio.
In an exclusive interview with the BBC in March, the striker said he felt like he was “about to die” after the incident in Essex and believed he had been given “another chance at life”.
