English striker Michelle Agyemang has been named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2025.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough year as she helped the Lionesses win Euro 2025 in Switzerland – just three months after making her international debut.
She proved crucial as a substitute at the European Championship, scoring crucial late equalizers in the quarter-final win against Sweden and in the semi-final win over Italy.
Her interventions led to her being named the best young player of the tournament, and she was later awarded the Golden Girl award for the best young player in Europe.
“Amazing. Thank you so much. I’m so grateful. I’m so grateful to all my teammates and coaches,” Agyemang said after receiving the award on Thursday.
“To my family, who have supported me throughout this year and throughout my career – even if it hasn’t been that long – I love you.
“Thank God so much for this opportunity. I’m so grateful.”
Agyemang was also nominated for the Copa World Under-21 Women’s Player of the Year award.
She has been on loan at Brighton from Arsenal since September 2024, with the Seagulls re-signing on loan in August following her success with England.
Last season, she scored five goals in 22 games as Brighton finished fifth in the Women’s Super League, their highest position in the competition.
However, Agyemang is set to miss the rest of the 2025-26 season after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament while playing for the Lionesses in October.
