Microsoft is offering its best Prime Day laptop deal yet

There is something that cannot be denied The upward trend of laptop pricing. But this is Prime Day, and this is the time for exceptions to this pattern. I’ve been checking prices on all of my favorite laptops, and there’s one clear winner for Prime Day this year: the Surface Laptop.

Although prices officially went up earlier this year, they’ve now dropped to just $835, which is $515 cheaper than what they’ve typically sold for over the past few months. It’s a great deal, especially in 2026.

Surface Laptop 13.8-inch (7th Edition)

This model was launched in 2024 and comes with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Although this sounds old, I wouldn’t call this old at all. The newer model, which uses the Snapdragon X2 chipset, was introduced just two weeks ago and costs nearly twice as much. But this model has really solid performance and has a long-lasting battery.

No matter which version you get, the chassis is almost identical. It’s beautifully designed and well built, has a slim profile, one of my favorite keyboards, and a haptic feedback trackpad. It’s very MacBook-like in its approach to minimalism.

However, the standout feature in my book is the 3:2 aspect ratio display. This shape means it’s taller than an average 16:10 laptop, giving you more vertical screen space to work with. This may seem counter-intuitive for some tasks, but I found it very useful. No matter what work you’re doing on your laptop, having more vertical space on your screen will likely enable you to see more and do more. The screen also has a 120Hz refresh rate, which makes animations and movement look smoother. This is a feature that even the MacBook Air doesn’t have.

The downside to this deal is that you don’t have a choice here for different colors or configurations. The $835 deal is on this specific version of this laptop. If you want more storage, for example, you’ll pay hundreds of dollars more. But there is no doubt that this is the best laptop selling at this price right now.
