It won’t take even the most hardened of football observers long to determine why Coventry have risen to the top of the Championship.
A free-flowing approach and precise finishing has seen the Sky Blues rack up an astonishing 43 goals in just 16 Championship games – 15 more than the next most prolific scorers, Hull City, and, remarkably, 23 more than second-placed Boro.
However, what is more dangerous for rivals hoping to stumble from the runaway leaders is how goals are distributed across the team.
Against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, Coventry started the match without any of their top scorers, Brandon Thomas Asante (10 goals) and Haggie Wright (8).
So, it will have added even more confidence building confidence bank to see their replacements, Josh Eccles and Ellis Sims, score a goal each to make it level from a 2-0 deficit.
“This shows every player that if you don’t start because the team is winning a lot, you have to keep training and keep pushing, and Josh and Ellis are great examples of that today,” Lampard told BBC Radio.
Viktor Torp’s goal – his seventh of the season – will convince Lampard that his resilient side can win from almost any position.
He added: “What I liked was that the players never stopped.” “My feeling, even at 2-0, is that we can definitely get back to that situation, the way we were moving the ball.”
