💡 **What You’ll Learn**:
Mohamed Salah He will leave Liverpool As one of the greatest players ever to represent the club and grace the English Premier League.
Salah’s stats provide the evidence – but there are plenty of lies beneath the numbers for the iconic Anfield figure dubbed the ‘King of Egypt’ by his adoring followers at the Kop.
He arrived at Liverpool from Roma on 23 June 2017 for £34m, a fee that now resembles an act of grand theft when compared to what he subsequently achieved.
Salah, like Kevin De Bruyne, another great Premier League player, was at Chelsea but failed to make any impact, scoring twice in 19 appearances, with just 10 appearances.
He turned down Liverpool to join Chelsea when he left Swiss club Basel in January 2014, and his only memory at Anfield before eventually arriving on Merseyside was starting for Jose Mourinho’s side in a 2-0 win there the following April. It was a clash infamous for Steven Gerrard’s gaffe and the result that tipped the title towards Manchester City.
However, since then, Salah has provided lifelong memories for Liverpool and their global fanbase as he helped add a Champions League, two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, an EFL Cup, a UEFA Super Cup and a Club World Cup to his roll of honor at Anfield.
Salah’s career began as a slow player at Basel, with coach Murat Yakin hinting at what he could become after scoring the winning goal in the 2013 Europa League quarter-final win over Tottenham.
“If Muhammad could score too, he wouldn’t be here anymore,” Yakin said.
He did. And it wasn’t.
Salah progressed at a rapid rate after leaving Chelsea, first on loan at Fiorentina and then having an impressive spell at Roma, and by the time he arrived at Anfield he was finished – but it is unlikely even Jurgen Klopp will realize what a talent he has signed.
The first goal Salah scored was from the goal line in a 3-3 draw with Watford on the opening day of his first season. Since then he has not stopped recording.
As he prepares to take his leave, Salah has scored 255 goals in 435 appearances for Liverpool. This places him third on the club’s all-time scoring list, behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.
