Rogers, like Villa, has had a slow start to the Premier League season.
The midfielder scored just once in 11 appearances before bagging his brace at Elland Road.
But his form has improved dramatically in recent weeks – and has coincided with Villa’s rise in results.
Unai Emery’s side have won six of their past seven league games, with Rogers now having three goals and two assists in that spell.
“He was performing brilliantly, even when he didn’t score,” Emery told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“His job has always been to focus on our game plan. He always plays well. Today he’s better scoring goals but for me he’s always the same. He’s had a great season.”
“He’s improving gradually like the team. Today, he scored goals, and it was fantastic.”
Of course, there is more to football than just goals or assists, and Rogers offers a lot more without those goal contributions.
Emery has also worked hard with Rogers to improve the midfielder’s movement.
“The manager is always attacking me for getting into the box,” Rogers said.
“This is where the goals are scored. Sometimes I hesitate to go in. I went in and reacted to the ball. [for his first goal].
“I’m lucky I was able to get my toe in. I was really happy about that.”
