✅ Here’s what you’ll learn:

The first song I fell in love with
My mom and dad played mostly gospel music. Secular music wasn’t the thing. When I was three years old, I stared at Sam Cooke’s “Jesus Gave Me Water” as it went round and round; I would be hypnotized by the power, finesse and raw emotion of his delivery.

First song I bought
“I Feel For You” by Chaka Khan has zoomed to number one. I lost my mind in the “Chak-Chak-Chak-Chaka Khan” segment. Because I was a good girl, and did all the housework, I begged Mum and Dad to go uptown and buy it at Our Price in Wolverhampton.

The song I play at karaoke
“I Don’t Have Anything” by Whitney Houston, because frankly, I’m a show-off. It’s a song that you aspire to do well, because there’s a lot of technical detail in it. You need range and breath control. Because I have this in my arsenal, I do it.

The song that changed my life
I lost my mind and my heart when I heard Prince’s song Little Red Corvette when I was nine years old. I watched the video and thought: This is the most amazing man I have ever seen. I will marry him when I am old enough. Did you? Unfortunately, no.

Best song to play at a party
Get Ur Freak On from Missy Elliott with ultimate bangs.

The song I secretly love, but tell everyone I hate
I don’t care what anyone says. Who Do You Think You Are by the Spice Girls is absolute pop.

Best song for sex
This is appropriate because we just lost it: Untitled (How It Feels) by D’Angelo. How do you feel? It’s a long song.

The song that wakes me up in the morning
I’ll take a shower, then sing loudly to Prince’s “Anotherloverholewn-yohead,” much to the annoyance of my eight-year-old black-and-white dog, Zayn, who absolutely hates my singing. She took him to the studio, but when she started singing, he ran to the door, whimpering to be let out.

The song to which I inexplicably know all the words
I can sing every word of Paul Simon’s “You Can Call Me Al.” He got in by osmosis.

The song I would want played at my funeral
It’s another Bloody Prince song, I’m So Sorry – Mountains. I love the way the chord structure and vocals – “It’s only the mountains and the sea / There’s nothing greater than you and me” – ascend like an ascension. I’d like to think, when I shake off this mortal coil, I’ll be going up instead of down. I think I was a good girl.
