Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr said his team won a “strange and sad” game at home for the Minnesota Timberwolves in a “bleak atmosphere” after the ICU nurse was shot by immigration agents in Minneapolis.

The death of 37-year-old Alex Peretti on Saturday was the second time in less than a month that an American citizen had been killed by federal agents in the city, and sparked angry protests locally and in other parts of the United States.

The Timberwolves held a moment of silence in memory of Pretty before Sunday’s game, which included anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) chants from fans.

An ICE operation in Minnesota ordered by President Donald Trump’s administration has been ongoing for more than six weeks. ICE agents have the authority to stop, detain, and arrest people they suspect of being in the United States illegally.

Rene Judd, another Minnesota resident, was shot and killed by an ICE agent on January 7.

“Honestly, that’s how I felt [the Timberwolves’] “The group was struggling,” Kerr said after the Warriors’ 111-85 win.

“It was one of the strangest and saddest games I’ve ever been involved in. You could feel the sombre atmosphere.

“We could tell their team was struggling with everything that was going on. What the city had been through. So it was a very sad night.”

Warriors forward Moses Moody, who scored 19 points with eight rebounds and two steals, said you could “feel the weight of the city” during the game, which was postponed for 24 hours after Preeti’s death.

“I couldn’t imagine too many times where this many people would be together in the middle of a situation like this, so I definitely felt it,” Moody said.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors by scoring 26 points, tying Paul Pierce for 19th place on the all-time scoring list and finishing the game with 26,397 points.

Anthony Edwards scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who lost their fifth straight game.
