Neil Warnock returns as interim manager of Torquay United

Warnock says he has “no idea” how long he will remain in office.

For now, he is planning Tuesday night’s clash with Farnborough at Plainmore as the Gulls look to try and get their season back on track.

He has not managed a team since leaving Aberdeen after a short spell with the Scottish Premiership side more than two years ago, but was revitalized after his first training session on Monday.

“It makes you realize how much you miss him,” he told BBC Sport.

“You know, when you’re on the training pitch this morning, you can’t replicate that camaraderie with the players, no matter what you do. You can do Talksport and Sky TV and all that, but he doesn’t replicate it.”

Some may question whether a 77-year-old who has not coached in more than two years still has what it takes to be in charge of a team at any level of the professional game.

But if there’s anyone who can do it, it’s certainly Warnock, who remains highly regarded by some of the best players in the world.

“Even Pip [Guardiola] He told me when I had a conversation, I talked to his players and made them laugh with some of the things I said.

He then said to me: “I understand why you’ve had so much success, Neil, because we don’t have a sense of humor in the game these days. “It’s all data and statistics, people there choosing a team, and someone on the computer telling me who I should sign.”

“I don’t forget that. I love humor and that’s what I enjoyed.

He added: “Today I enjoyed making some of them laugh, but I also wanted to make them understand the seriousness of the situation at the same time, and I will not tolerate certain things either.”

One thing is certain, however, that by Tuesday evening in Plainmoor, Torquay’s players will no longer be able to say they have no experience in their team.
