World number two Nelly Korda has described the lack of a mixed-gender virtual indoor league as an “incredible failure” after launching a women’s competition with support from Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
The WTGL will be held in the same Florida venue as the men’s TGL, which is currently in the middle of its second season.
Some of the world’s best female golfers will compete in a season of group matches at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, but Korda noted that not combining the men’s and women’s events was a missed opportunity.
“I have mixed feelings about this, and I’m surprised no other girls have spoken up about this,” she said.
“It is a huge and unbelievable loss that we are not playing alongside men.
“There is no better way to grow the game, and it would have been revolutionary. It would have been the first time, I think, that men and women would be on the same field, playing for the same exact amount of money.
“But I also think it’s great that we get this opportunity, so these are my mixed emotions.”
The indoor golf area features teams of players hitting the ball on a five-story-high simulated screen before moving to the short game area, which has bunkers and greens that can rotate 360 degrees, creating variations from hole to hole.
Asked about the possibility of a mixed-gender event, Mike McCarley, the former television executive who founded TGL alongside McIlroy and Woods, said the idea had been discussed.
“I think that’s something that’s interesting for us and interesting for the LPGA and interesting for a lot of the players we talk to,” McCarley said.
“Right now, we’re really focused on building (TGL) and providing a beautiful stage and a really great platform to showcase the players and their characters.”
Korda, 27, has not yet committed to participating in the event, saying she is “still considering the time commitment” required to play in the tournament.
Among the players confirmed to participate in the tournament are world number one Jeno Thitikul and British golfers Charlie Hall and Lottie Wood.
Atlanta Drive beat New York GC 4-3 to win their first TGL title last year, with a £10.39 million prize split between the finalists.
Competition this season, external It began on December 28, with the best-of-three final set starting on March 23.
The start date and prizes for the women’s competition have not yet been announced, having been scheduled to take place in the winter of 2026-2027.
