The Loughborough Lightning overcame a ‘tough’ opener to defeat Leeds Rhinos 70-43 in the second round of the Netball Premier League season.
The win at Cannon Medical Arena in Sheffield put the visitors at the top of the early standings with six points from their opening matches.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Lightning coach Vic Burgess said: “I’m really happy with the result, really happy with the win today.
“It was great to see such a strong team performance. Everyone who took to the field did exactly what we asked of them.”
From 24-23 behind, the Lightning went on a scoring spree to take a 37-24 lead at the halfway point and never looked back.
“The first quarter was difficult, and I am really happy with the performance of all the girls,” Burgess said.
Lightning co-captain Nat Panagarry, a three-time champion with the team, makes her 200th NSL appearance.
In the other Friday match, the London Pulses team, the defending champion, succeeded in repelling a late attack from the Dragons team at Cardiff House of Sport Stadium, winning 51-50 to also achieve two wins from two matches.
