Netflix confirms it is raising prices again

Netflix has quietly raised its prices again. The streaming giant’s affordable ad-supported tier now costs $8.99 per month, up from the previous monthly subscription fee of $7.99, Netflix confirmed to TechCrunch in an email.

The Standard plan without ads now costs $19.99 per month, an increase of $2 from the previous subscription fee of $17.99, while the Premium plan also goes up by $2 and will now cost $26.99 per month.

Adding additional viewers outside your household also becomes more expensive. To add a user to an ad-supported plan, it now costs $6.99 instead of $7.99. If you’re adding an additional viewer to an ad-free plan, it will now cost $9.99 instead of $8.99.

The company told TechCrunch that the changes are designed to reflect improvements in its “wide range of entertainment” and the quality of its services.

The price hike was first spotted by Android Authority.

Netflix says new members who sign up will see the new plan prices starting March 26, while existing subscribers will see the updated prices over the coming months. Existing members will be notified via email one month before the new rates apply to them.

Netflix last raised prices in January 2025. Since then, the company has updated its platform with a series of new additions, including the introduction of video podcasts as well as more live streaming content. The company also recently announced plans to revamp its mobile app and expand the short video feature.

The new increases come as Netflix last month backed down from a bid to buy Warner Bros. Entertainment. Discovery.

Warner Bros. announced Discovery said Paramount Skydance’s offer of $31 per share was a “great offer” and gave Netflix four business days to respond. Netflix then said it would not raise its full $82.7 billion cash offer for the studio, and eventually pulled out of the deal.
