✅ **What You’ll Learn**:
Netflix is increasing its investment in video podcasts, with its latest projects featuring popular comedian Pete Davidson and Cowboys Hall of Famer Michael Irvin.
The streaming giant on Wednesday announced two original audio-video shows coming to the platform: Irvine’s “The White House,” which will air on Jan. 19, and “The Pete Davidson Show,” which will premiere on Jan. 30.
Both series, available only to Netflix subscribers, are designed to capitalize on the star power of their hosts. Davidson already has two comedy specials on the service that have performed well for the streamer. Meanwhile, Irvin is emerging as a prominent figure in the world of sports and was a major focus of the Netflix documentary series America’s Team: The Gambler and the Cowboys. Its new offering is likely to attract millions of football fans who have already subscribed to the service.
Davidson’s show will feature candid, behind-the-scenes conversations with friends from his own garage, and will air every Friday, while Irvin’s show will feature in-depth sports news, analysis and commentary twice a week, joined by notable co-hosts like former NFL All-Pro receiver Brandon Marshall.
These originals will join Netflix’s growing roster of podcasts, alongside titles licensed from iHeartMedia, Spotify and Barstool Sports such as “Dear Chelsea,” “My Favorite Murder” and “The Ringer.” Notably, as part of these licensing agreements, these shows are not available in their entirety on YouTube.
Wednesday’s news comes at a time when Netflix is increasingly trying to challenge YouTube’s dominance in the podcast space, with viewers watching more than 700 million hours of podcasts per month on living room devices in 2025.
However, Netflix is still in the early stages of developing its podcast library. With millions of podcasts available across YouTube, Spotify, and other competing platforms, the wide range of selection poses a major challenge for Netflix. If the company wants to attract a decent portion of this audience, it has a lot of catching up to do.
