💡 Here’s what you’ll learn:

New details have emerged about the deaths of film director Rob Reiner and photographer Michelle Singer Reiner, whose bodies were discovered in their Brentwood, La., home on Sunday.

A New York Times report, citing a “close family person” who remained anonymous, says a massage therapist who arrived for an appointment first raised the alarm after being unable to make it to an appointment on Sunday. The therapist called their daughter, Romy Rayner, who lived nearby, who entered the house and found Rob Rayner’s body. The Times said that Romy “ran away from home in distress” without realizing that her mother’s body was also inside, and that her roommate, who was with her, had called 911. Emergency responders then discovered Michelle Singer Reiner’s body.

Authorities charged the couple’s son, Nick Rayner, 32, with two counts of first-degree murder and using a dangerous weapon, a knife. He is currently in custody without bail.

The person quoted by the Times also questioned several previously reported details. He said Romy told emergency responders that Nick lived in a guest house on the property but did not name him as a possible suspect at the time.

The source also disputed widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michelle Singer Reiner were particularly “apprehensive” about Nick’s behavior in recent weeks, saying the family is “used to working through… [Nick’s] This also includes reports of Nick’s “erratic” behavior at a party hosted by Conan O’Brien, which was held the night before Reiner’s bodies were found. The source said that while he was not in a position to say whether Rob had “reprimanded” his son for his disruptive behavior at the party, suggestions that the pair had a “heated argument” were not true.

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said Tuesday that the coroner had not yet determined whether the Rayners died late Saturday or Sunday. Media reports indicated that the condition of their bodies indicated that they had been dead for several hours.

Nick Rayner was arrested at around 9:30pm on Sunday in the Exposition Park neighborhood, about 15 miles away. He was due to appear in court on Tuesday for a hearing, but his lawyer Alan Jackson said he had not been medically cleared and would not appear in court until Wednesday at the earliest.
