After making her debut in 2024, Maye has taken off this season, completing 354 of 492 attempts (a league-high 72%) for 31 touchdowns against just eight interceptions. He also led the league in passer rating with 113.5.

While speaking on Colin Cowherd’s FS1 show “The Herd,” former Patriots quarterback Julian Edelman talked about what sets Maye apart from other young quarterbacks:

“I think that’s his demeanor. Just talking to people out there, everyone talks about how he’s so hungry to coach, and he’s so hungry to learn, and that translates to the way he looks when he plays. He seems so confident, he makes it look so easy. And I think his relationship with Josh McDaniels has been great.”

Khalil Mack shared the Chargers’ plan to stop Drake Maye in the Wild Card meeting

One of the men tasked with stopping Drake May is Chargers linebacker Khalil Mack. Speaking to reporters in the locker room during training week, he began by praising the midfielder:

“He’s special. He’s got arm talent, and he looks very quick, too. So, it’s going to be a challenge for us to keep him in the pocket.”

Then he immediately got into it and discussed how to stop it:

“The rush coverage should work well. Just understand that we’ve got to push four guys as one on offense. Keep him trapped in the pocket. Don’t let him get out when he doesn’t see anyone open. On the back end, we’re going to have to cover as well, because he’s accurate and able to get the ball at all kinds of different spots.”

When asked what the message was to him and the defense regarding the cover-up, he said:

“It’s always been the case. Understanding who we want to be, the defense we want to be, and putting that on film. Honestly, I don’t talk about it a lot. But just knowing what we want to be, and we understand what we want to be.”

The Chargers-Patriots game begins at 8:20 PM ET on NBC.
