📌 Here’s what you’ll learn:
Sanders completed his first two passes but completed four of 16 attempts for 47 yards.
He was sacked twice, intercepted once, and his quarterback rating of 13.5 was the worst in his debut since Brandon Weeden, a first-round pick by Cleveland in 2012.
Sanders scrambled for a first down and on his sixth and final possession, made two passes to help put the Browns in position to win the game, but the drive ended with three straight incompletions.
As the fourth option at quarterback, Sanders did not practice with the Browns’ first team during training camp, and did not have any snaps with them after becoming a reserve either.
“I mean he looked like a backup rookie quarterback who didn’t take any reps on the first offense,” Oyefosi said.
“This wasn’t the debut he or his fans were hoping for. But you have to put it in context. He’s playing really good defense for the Ravens, and the Browns’ offensive line has struggled all year.”
The quarterback’s snap cadence is what they shout at the line of scrimmage, which tells their teammates when they want to snap the ball to start the play.
Cleveland guard Wyatt Teller admitted after Sunday’s game that the Browns’ offensive linemen had to learn Sanders’ rhythm in the first half.
“Twenty-five percent completion rate makes you feel bad about it, but I think there’s a lot of promise for this young man,” NFL analyst Phoebe Scheckter added.
“He didn’t have opportunities to tangle or combine, so you can’t put everything on him. I would actually point to head coach Kevin Stefanski, who was in charge of the reps and what his rookie experience was like.”
