💡 **What You’ll Learn**:
Scottish striker Nico Carrillo is settling in well in the featherweight division, dominating his first two fights in the new weight division.
The ‘King of the North’, who has long competed at bantamweight, made it 2 of 2 in the 155lb division after dismantling American Luke Lacey in his last bout at ONE Fight Night 37 in November last year. He dominated Muay Thai competition, which saw him stop “The Chef” by TKO in the second round.
Carrillo had difficulty early in the match, having to deal with low kicks and set pieces from Lisi. Despite this, he stayed the course, looking for the opportunity he needed to harm himself.
He was able to find it late in the first round when he connected with a sharp punch and a knee combination that dropped his opponent for an eight count. While Lisi survived that, it only got tough in the second round as Nico Carrillo continued to attack him with ripping body hooks and hammering knees to the body as well as uppercuts to which the American had no clear answer, forcing the referee to step in and stop the bout at the 2:35 mark of the segment.

ONE Championship looked back on Carrillo’s dominant victory over Lessei in a video post on its official YouTube channel at the start of the new year.

The win at ONE Fight Night 37 was Nico Carrillo’s second straight featherweight win. That was on the heels of his second-round knockout win over Thailand’s Sitichai Setsongpinong in April.
Carrillo competed at bantamweight until January last year, but an opening-round TKO loss to Muay Thai bantamweight world champion Nabil Annan made him realize his body was no longer suited to his old weight class.
Nico Carrillo wants a world title bout at featherweight next
With his recent success at featherweight, Nico Carrillo wants to challenge for the world title in that division which is currently held by Thai star Tawanchai BK Saenchai.
He announced his intentions in an Instagram post in December, writing:
“I want the belt at 155. I missed it once and I won’t do it again. Let’s make it happen @onechampionship let’s go. 100% finish rate for a reason.”
Nico Carrillo is currently the #4 contender in the Muay Thai Featherweight division and boasts a 100% takedown rate in his six ONE Championship victories.
Unfortunately for Carrillo, his chance at a world title shot against Taoanchai may have to be postponed, if it happens, as the latter injured his leg in a kickboxing bout in December.
