✅ Main takeaway:
Musicians including Neneh Cherry, Nadine Shah, Celeste, Mabel, Leigh-Anne and Brian Eno joined the competition for first place on Christmas with a single to raise money for Palestinian-led organisations.
The lullaby is a reimagining of the traditional Palestinian lullaby Yama Mawil al-Hawa (Mama, Sing to the Wind), compiled by the team behind the Together for Palestine charity show in September. The new songs’ lyrics are in English written by Peter Gabriel.
In a statement, Eno said: “After a year marked by unimaginable loss, sadness and injustice, we want to conclude with an act of love for the children of Palestine. The lullaby reflects their beauty, longing and hopes. If we come together and download it, we have a real chance of achieving Christmas No. 1 – and turning that moment into vital, life-saving support for the families of Gaza.”
Released on December 12, it will aim to raise money for the Choose Love Foundation’s Together for Palestine Charitable Fund, which supports frontline Palestinian-led organizations such as Taawon, the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, and the Palestinian Medical Relief Society.
The song was arranged and re-composed by Kieran Brant and Nay Barghouti, and also features Amina Al-Abd, Dan Smith of Bastille, Lana Loubani, London Community Gospel Choir, Soura Abdou, Tyson, Yasmine Ayachi Wessi, along with Brent and Barghouti.
Barghouthi, a Palestinian, said: “This lullaby from our Palestinian musical heritage has been with me since early childhood. Today, it returns at a time when it is needed most as a reminder of what Palestinians will never lose: hope, challenge, beauty and dignity.”

“The song holds a special place for many reasons, but mostly because it is the first time I have sung with my mother Ninah and my sister Tyson, and because it is a traditional lullaby in honor of mothers and children in Gaza that means the world,” Mabel said. “I hope you feel the strength in our voices.”
Organizers are urging fans to pre-order the song to help push it to Christmas No. 1. Her current contenders are Kylie Minogue, whose song XMAS was recorded exclusively for Amazon Music – and is the first song played if Alexa users request Christmas music – Dennis Welch’s Slayyy Bells, and the usual suspects Wham! And Mariah Carey.
Christmas will be announced as No. 1 in the UK on December 19.
