None offers an AI-powered dictation tool

In the past few years, AI-powered dictation tools have taken off. In addition to existing dictation apps like Wispr Flow, Superwhisper, Willow, and Monologue, new apps are launched every week. Hardware company Nothing on Thursday launched a competing product of its own called Essential Voice.

The basic idea is similar to other dictation apps, as Essential Voice works in any app to convert your speech into rich text, removing filler words like “um” and “ah” along the way. You can also create custom audio shortcuts for recurring words, links, templates, and phrases, the company said. For example, you can assign a “My Address” abbreviation to your full address.

Currently, the feature is available on the phone (3) with plans to launch the phone (4a) Pro later this month, and support for the phone (4a) that will arrive next month.

To access this feature, users either press the soft key on the devices it is on or activate it from the keyboard. This feature is similar to one that Superwhisper launched earlier this week for iPhone users, which lets them map their iPhone’s action key to the app’s keyboard for dictation.

There is no new tool that can also translate text directly from one language to another. At launch, nothing mentioned that the feature supports more than 100 languages. Going forward, it will also offer custom app-based design, meaning you’ll be able to change the AI ​​editing tone within app categories, such as Work and Messaging.

Nothing is one of the first companies to offer system-level integration for dictation. However, based on Google’s recent release of its offline dictation app, we may see more companies launching similar tools in the future.
