Mark Allen will face compatriot Jordan Browne in the quarter-finals of the Northern Ireland Open following a 4-1 win over Aaron Hill in the third round on Thursday in Belfast.

Allen punished a mistake by Republic of Ireland player Hill in the first frame at the Waterfront Hall, before knocking down a break of 137.

Hill, a three-time quarter-finalist of the ranking event, responded with breaks of 24 and 65 to level in the second frame, before Allen won the next three frames to advance to the last eight.

The world number eight will face compatriot Brown, who defeated the in-form Sean Murphy 4-2 in their round of 16 encounter, in the next round.

Brown raced to a three-frame lead but Murphy fought back with two straight frames, which included a break of 135.

However, the home favorites came out on top in a tense sixth frame to book their place in the last eight.

Elsewhere, Judd Trump and Tom Ford booked their places in the quarter-finals with wins over Gary Wilson and Yuan Sejun.

World number one Trump, who is seeking to win his fifth title at the Northern Ireland Open, won 4-1 over Wilson, while Ford beat Yuan 4-2.

In the evening session, defending champion Kyren Wilson defeated He Guoqiang 4-2, and Jack Lisowski defeated Thepchaya Oh-no 4-2.

Ali Carter withdrew from the event due to personal reasons and Yuelong Zhou advanced to the next round.
