Northern Ireland have appointed Chris Lindsay as interim manager for their first 2027 Women’s World Cup qualifier next March.

Tanya Oxtoby left her position to take charge of Newcastle United in November after two years in charge, and with no permanent replacement named, Lindsay will take charge for matches away to Switzerland on March 3 and then at home to Turkey four days later.

Lindsay, who is currently manager of the Northern Ireland Under-16 Men’s team, was previously at the helm of League of Ireland Premiership side Dungannon Swifts, and served as first-team coach for Cliftonville and Glenavon.

Lindsay was also first team coach for Northern Ireland Women when Jill Redmond was caretaker manager between the reigns of Oxtoby and former manager Kenny Shiels in July 2023.

“Running your country at any level is a privilege, and I am thrilled to have this opportunity,” Lindsay said.

“I have followed the women’s senior team for some time. They have a great leadership group and my role will simply be to add what I can.

“These are two tough games to start our World Cup campaign and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
