Last season was disappointing for Norwich, which finished the season in 13th place, 11 points outside the playoffs, and cost its coach Johannes Hof Thorup his job.

The club appointed Norwich-born Liam Manning as their replacement, but they have lost every home game so far this season and have only taken nine points from the 14 they have played in the Championship.

Manning was recently publicly backed by majority shareholder Attanasio during a special BBC Radio Norfolk Canary Call programme.

In the report, sporting director Ben Napper, who has also been criticized by some supporters, said Manning was “the best candidate to help us achieve our primary goal of promotion to the Premier League.”

He continued: “We know that this will not be easy or quick with the strategic approach we have followed, but we have conviction in the direction we are heading in and we will work tirelessly until we get there.”

Reiterating the mission statement as “an established Premier League club” may further antagonize some fans, unhappy with the quality of some of the players signed over the summer, and more concerned about the club dropping back to League One for the first time since 2009-10.

Napper admitted “a very difficult and disappointing start to the current season” and said he strongly believed that the changes to the squad in the summer would stand the club “in good stead for many years to come”.

“However, the importance of the short-term results is not lost on any of us,” he added.

“We often talk about long-term visions and strategies, but we are keenly aware of the need to deliver results here and now, and at the time of writing, we have not done so.

“We are all convinced that we will turn this around over the coming months.”

Naber concluded his statement by saying: “We have not made all the right decisions, but the thirst and desire to improve and move our club forward is stronger than ever, even in the face of challenge, and we will continue to do everything in our power to give you all a club you can truly be proud of.”

Despite the team’s moderate form, the report shows average home attendance last season was 26,316 spectators last season, a slight increase from just over 200 spectators the previous season.

The number of season tickets sold was 20,339, compared to 20,020 in 2023-24, but total wage costs as a percentage of sales rose from 71% to 122%.
