But that’s not what happened. Dike Hutchinson, Taiwo Awoni and Ryan Yates were brought on in the 59th minute.

The changes immediately lifted the City Ground crowd, who were delighted with the positivity.

Hutchinson, a £37.5 million summer signing, played a major role in scoring both goals, as he provided an assist for Gibbs-White and won the penalty kick.

“Being proactive led to Daiichi winning the game, rather than trying to protect what they got,” Murphy said.

“People have accused Daiichi many times of being too negative, and this was a great example of him saying: ‘I have quality and we can win this game’ – and they did it that way.”

“We see a lot of managers doing that in the last 10 or 15 minutes, I think it was clear that Dyche made his changes here very early in the second half.”

He added: “Now, the mood is completely different, and suddenly everyone is looking at the standings and thinking that they are now only one win away from getting out of the relegation zone.”
