Daichi said the team is “still a work in progress” as Forest look to return to the level they had on the field during their time in the academy.
“When I was here in the 1987-90 season, this team was regularly finishing in the top six in the old League One and winning the Littlewoods Cup. [the EFL Cup] As it was at that time,” he said.
“We’re not there yet, the fans know that and the club knows that, but it’s about building that momentum and he’s clearly lost his way a little bit.”
Dyke left Forest for Chesterfield in 1990, spending seven years in defense with Spirit, before playing for Bristol City, Millwall, Watford and Northampton.
He has been out of work since his two-year spell at Everton ended in January, having previously spent 10 years as Burnley manager until 2022.
Speaking about his past at Forest, Dyche said: “Everyone knows during the years I talked about my love and the beginning of my career which was under Brian Clough.
“I didn’t make my way into the first team, I spent three years as a trainee and a young professional and learned a lot.
“I have fond memories of cruising down the River Trent with Del Boy [Clough’s dog] You cross your feet and hear your boss’s voice in the distance. It’s weird to be back, but it’s good and a lot of fun.
“It’s one of those things, can you imagine it could happen one day? Not in the early days of my coaching career, but when things started to change in my career and they changed at Nottingham Forest, new ownership came in and the growth, it makes you wonder.
“It came my way. I’m very happy and proud.”
