Vitor Pereira signed a contract until the end of next season to become Nottingham ForestFourth manager of the season and help them avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The 57-year-old takes over at the City Ground from Sean Dyche, who was sacked early on Thursday morning.

Forest have not officially announced the Portuguese’s appointment, but he is set to return for another spell in English football, having been sacked by Wolves in November after 11 months in charge.

The Tricky Trees are 17th in the Premier League, three points above the relegation zone, after two wins in their last 10 matches.

Pereira succeeds Nuno Espírito Santo, Ange Postecoglou and Deitch as forest director since September.

They sacked Deche after their disappointing goalless draw with Wolverhampton on Wednesday.

Pereira, who won 14 of Wolves’ 38 matches and helped them survive last season, quickly emerged as a preferred replacement, having previously worked under Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis at Greek club Olympiacos.

He won the title and the Greek Cup in the 2014-2015 season during the six months he spent in office, before leaving for Fenerbahce.

Pereira joined Wolverhampton in December 2024, but was sacked three months ago and the team had two points from its first 10 league matches.

He began his coaching career with Portuguese club Sanguanense in 2004, and after stints in Germany, China, Brazil and Saudi Arabia, he is set to take up his 15th position.
