Each exit from the tournament raised questions about his future, but Djokovic said he had no plans to retire, and was inspired by stars in other sports who defied age to play at the top.
“Longevity is one of my biggest motivations,” Djokovic said during a conference at Joy Forum in Riyadh.
“I really want to see how far I can go. If you see in all world sports, LeBron James is still going strong, he’s 40, Cristiano Ronaldo, Tom Brady played until he was 40, it’s unbelievable.
“They inspire me.
“In the next couple of years, tennis is a sport that can change dramatically and I want to be part of that change.
“I want to play when we revamp our sport and put in place the new platform that will last for decades to come.”
High-profile players are pushing the Grand Slams for a greater share of revenue, while the ATP – which Djokovic co-founded – launched lawsuits against tennis’ governing bodies earlier this year in a bid to force changes.
Djokovic was speaking in Saudi Arabia for the Six Kings Slam exhibition tournament, where he and six-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz were exempt from reaching the semi-finals.
There are reports that there is $4.5m (£3.4m) in prize money on offer, with some players also likely receiving seven-figure sums for appearing.
Reports say the winner could take home up to $6 million (£4.5 million).
Djokovic lost 6-4, 6-2 to defending champion Sinner on Thursday evening.
The 24-year-old Italian player will face her rival Alcaraz in the final for the second year in a row after the world number one seed defeated American Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-2.
