Crystal Palace Manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The 51-year-old Austrian will leave as a Palace legend after leading the Eagles to their first major trophy when they beat Manchester City to win the FA Cup last season.

The win means Glasner also takes charge of Palace in the Conference League this season – his first experience of a major European competition – as they beat Liverpool on penalties in the Community Shield in August.

Sources told BBC Sport that Glasner was offered a new contract last summer, but confirmed on Friday that he had informed club chairman Steve Parish that he would not sign a new contract in October.

The news comes as Palace captain Mark Guehi closes in on a move to Manchester City, although Glasner insists his exit has nothing to do with transfer decisions.

“The decision was already made months ago. I met with Steve [Parish] “In October, the international break,” Glasner said.

“We spoke for a very long time, and I told him I was not going to sign a new contract. We agreed at that time that it was best to keep it between us. It’s the best we can do and keep it secret for three months.

“But it’s important now to have clarity, and we’ve had a very busy schedule and that’s why we didn’t want to talk about it. Steve and I want what’s best for Crystal Palace.”
