Olympic gold medalist Shakari Richardson was arrested on an “excessive dangerous” speeding charge, according to jail booking records.

Richardson was booked into the Orange County Jail in Florida at 19:39 local time on Thursday.

Jail records show the 25-year-old American was charged with driving dangerously at excessive speed of 100 mph or more.

A spokesperson for the Orange County Police Department told BBC Sport that Richardson was traveling at 104 mph and crossing lanes of traffic to pass other drivers.

Her bond was set at $500 (£363).

The American won silver in the 100 meter dash at the Paris Olympics and gold as part of the USA 4 x 100 meter relay team.

Florida introduced new penalties for speeding offenses in July.

Under a new law – known as the ‘high speeding’ law – drivers can be fined up to $1,000 (£727), required to appear in court if they claim they exceed the limit by more than 50mph, or face jail time or having their license revoked for repeated breaches.

In August, Richardson was arrested on allegations of domestic violence. She was released the next day, and later said she would seek help.

Richardson missed the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for marijuana use.
