Swansea Council approved plans to redevelop the land in August 2025.

In a new statement from the Ospreys and the local authority, they announced a proposal for a new Swansea Rugby Community Board to ensure the redevelopment achieves maximum benefit for local residents.

The statement added: “Alun Wyn Jones, former Wales and British and Irish national team captain, has agreed to work with the council to ensure that the collaboration maximizes benefits for grassroots rugby and the community.”

Council Chairman Rob Stewart said: “St Helens’ future hangs in the balance due to ongoing discussions about regional rugby in Wales which are unlikely to end any time soon.

“The WRU is not giving us the answers we need to move forward despite our requests, such as how Y11 can have two teams for such a long period of time. In light of the imminent EGM, I doubt the WRU knows where to go.

“We must break this impasse in the meantime and find how we can move forward as a city despite the WRU’s lack of answers.

“We propose to create a new model that will enhance professional and grassroots rugby across Swansea and the Ospreys region.”
