Palantir Technologies (PLTR) was the best-performing stock in the S&P 500, as the software provider to government agencies stands to benefit from the end of the shutdown.

Shares of Micron Technology (MU) also rose after positive comments from Mizuho Securities, which said the chipmaker could get support from higher demand and prices.

Shares of Eli Lilly (LLY) rose after the pharmaceutical company partnered with Insilico Medicine to use artificial intelligence to discover new drugs.

Shares of Centene (CNC) and rival health insurance providers fell after President Trump suggested federal health care money should bypass insurance companies and go directly to people.

Shares of Metsera (MTSR) fell after Novo Nordisk (NVO) did not raise its bid for the biopharmaceutical company developing diabetes and weight loss drugs, allowing Pfizer (PFE) to complete its $10 billion takeover. Pfizer shares also fell.

Ball (BALL) shares fell as the consumer packaging products manufacturer announced the resignation of CEO Daniel Fisher, to be replaced by Supply Chain and Operations CEO Ronald Lewis.

Oil futures fell, while gold prices rose. The yield on 10-year Treasury bonds rose. The US dollar rose against the euro, British pound and yen. Most major cryptocurrencies are trading in the green zone.
