Yannick Sinner beat Felix Auger-Aliassime to win his first Paris Masters title and reclaim the world number one ranking from rival Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner’s 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win over the Canadian extended his winning streak on indoor hard courts to 26 matches – a streak that extends to the 2023 Davis Cup Finals.

With this victory, the 24-year-old Italian raised the difference to 250 points over Alcaraz in the world rankings before the start of the season-ending tournament on November 9.

Sinner’s win ensures that the race for the world No. 1 ranking at the end of the year will move to the final tournament of the season – a fitting end to a year in which his rivalry with Alcaraz has reached heights.

The pair have won the past eight Grand Slam titles between them and remain on a different level to the rest of the men’s tour.

Their dominance was such that the difference between Alcaraz, ranked second, and Alexander Zverev (5690) was greater than the total points of the German ranked third (5560).

“It’s not just in my hands, but of course I’m happy,” said Sinner, who will have more points to defend than Alcaraz in the finals after winning the title last year. [to return to number one].

“The goal was to move forward day by day and try to maximize my potential, which I did.

“Now we are recharging and hopefully we will be as ready as possible for Torino.”
