However, that is easier said than done.

There is a belief internally that there have been times on the road this season when Newcastle have been dragged into games the opposition wanted rather than imposing their own style on them as planned.

As much as that has been influenced by the need to choose moments to press hard during a relentless schedule, they have, on average, had more possession and more than 10 open passing sequences per game this season.

But Newcastle didn’t always make the most of all that possession, and failed to make progress in a goalless draw against Wolves earlier this month despite having 67% of possession.

Toothless Newcastle’s 94% pass completion rate in the first half at Molineux was the highest any Premier League team has recorded in a first half without having had a shot on target.

Howe’s side often lacked the guile to find a way through a low block, which then fed into their main problem on the road – a lack of goals.

As season ticket holder Adam Stoker notes, it is interesting that on the rare occasions when Newcastle have scored within two minutes, the visitors have gone on to beat both Everton and Burnley – even if the latter’s success has been far from straightforward.

“When we play against home teams that sit a little longer, the fans can push the players over the line,” he said.

“As for facing the wolves, when they were the ones sitting, and there was a crowd of people behind them, it helped them.

“It feels like we’re able to play a little different at home than we do away from home. We look like a little bit of a different beast.”

It has gotten to the point where Howe is trying to take the focus away from where the game is going with his players.

Instead of overthinking it on the field, he called on his team to simply attack every game – no matter where it was played.

We start with Wednesday’s trip to the defending champions in Paris.

Howe added: “A lot of questions have been asked about our away form and our ability to deal with pressure and withstand times when we are not the dominant team.”

“Maybe we didn’t do a good enough job this year, and then, of course, when you get the moments, you have to show your quality the other way,

“This will be a really good game to try to answer some questions, and show ourselves that we can be effective in every environment.”
