Paul Green leaves his position as head of women’s football at Chelsea

Sporting directors Lawrence Stewart and Paul Winstanley have become increasingly involved in the decision-making process on the women’s side, and have already taken steps to shape the club’s future.

Last week, Chelsea coach Sonia Bombastor signed a new contract that will keep her at the club until 2030.

This came days after she expressed her frustration with their recruitment during the summer transfer window, and highlighted injuries and a lack of team depth as one of the reasons why Chelsea fell by nine points behind Manchester City, leaders of the English Premier League.

Some fans expressed concern about Bombastor’s tactics, although the Frenchwoman led Chelsea to an unbeaten domestic treble in her first season, but the timing of her contract extension was a strong statement from the club.

However, Green’s departure comes as a shock given that he has been a stalwart of the club’s structure for more than a decade, and has enjoyed great success in his position.
