“We are trying to help him reach his full potential so that the team can come out on top,” Monaco coach Sebastian Bocconioli said of Pogba on Friday.

“He has the qualities to adapt to what we want to implement in midfield – he hasn’t lost his vision or his style.

“[He will bring] Experience and leadership, both on and off the field, not to mention his qualities that must adapt to the pace of competition.”

Pogba was provisionally suspended from football for four years after testing positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in February 2024, following a doping test in August 2023.

Pogba confirmed that it was a mistake and that he was given a nutritional supplement without knowing that it contained a banned substance.

The France national team player, who won the 2018 World Cup, was allowed to return to football in March after the decision to reduce the suspension imposed on him.

If Pogba makes his Monaco debut against Rennes, it will be his first ever appearance in Ligue 1.

He came through the ranks at Le Havre, but joined Manchester United before making his first-team appearance.

Pogba joined Juventus on a free transfer in 2012, before returning to Old Trafford in a world record £89m deal four years later.

He returned to Juventus after his six-year contract with United expired in 2022, but made just 12 appearances before his contract was mutually terminated.

Pogba scored the winning goal for France over Croatia 4-2 in the 2018 World Cup final.
