✅ Key idea:
Lim met England’s Humphreys in the first round of the 2021 World Championship, and on that occasion, Lim won 3-2.
The odds of a repeat are unlikely, given that Humphries – who is 41 years younger than Lim – has had a nearly two-year spell as world No. 1 and won several major titles, including a world title in January 2024.
“I’m grateful Paul won that match because it changed me as a player and it changed me as a person,” Humphries said after defeating Ted Evetts in the first round.
“After three months, I had lost about four stone and was in a grand final [at the 2021 UK Open]. “It helped me in my career.”
Regarding those comments, Lim said: “To meet a humble hero like him – when he said that, it was really a compliment to me. I don’t have anything bad to say about Luke.”
“With every defeat or every win, there is a spark somewhere – you have to find it to ignite you in the right direction. I can’t say the loss made him a world champion, but maybe it created that spark within himself to look at something different and it worked out well for him.
“It’s definitely a different Luke Humphries. He was good then, he’s great now. It’s a huge honor to hear him describe me as a legend.”
