UEFA has begun disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea winger Pedro Neto after he pushed a boy with balls during their Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain.
The 26-year-old Portugal international pushed the youngster in stoppage time of Wednesday’s round of 16 first leg at the Parc des Princes – which Chelsea lost 5-2 – causing him to fall off the chair.
This caused a quarrel between the two teams.
UEFA said that a case had been filed against Neto for “unsporting behaviour” in accordance with its disciplinary regulations.
UEFA added in its statement: “UEFA’s disciplinary bodies will make a decision on this issue in due course.”
Neto apologized for the incident after the match and blamed it on getting caught “in the emotions of the match” while trying to recover the ball quickly.
“I’m not like that. It was in the heat of the moment and I want to apologise. I gave him my shirt. I’m really sorry about that – I feel like I should apologize to him,” Neto told TNT Sports.
“My French is not very good, and [Portugal team-mate] Vitinha came and told him I wasn’t like that.
“In the end it is [the ball boy] I laughed and gave him my shirt and said sorry about 35 times. “He saw what happened and was happy with the situation.”
Chelsea will host Paris Saint-Germain next Tuesday in the return match, after Newcastle’s visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday in the English Premier League.
