PFL Dubai: Usman Nurmagomedov submits Alfie Davis in the third round to retain the lightweight title

In his post-fight interview, Nurmagomedov, considered one of the best fighters outside of the UFC, did not mention any potential opponents he would like to face next.

Other than the trilogy fight with Irishman Paul Hughes, who lost on points to Nurmagomedov in two close five-round bouts last year, there are no notable contenders.

Rabadanov could be another option for Nurmagomedov, but it’s rare for fighters who train in the same gym to fight each other.

The most tempting fight for Davis is also Hughes, who has not competed since his loss to Nurmagomedov in October.

Davis will not be able to defend his title in 2025 because the Premier League will not continue with its system in 2026.

Earlier on the card, Briton Luke Trainer knocked out Australian Rob Wilkinson in the first round of their light heavyweight bout via guillotine choke.

Victory ended a 17-month absence for the 29-year-old coach to achieve his fifth successive victory.

Fellow Briton Haider Khan was on the wrong side of a guillotine choke as he suffered a first-round defeat to Brazilian Johnny Gregory in their middleweight bout.

In the co-main event, Russian Ramzan Kuramagomedov defeated his compatriot Shamil Musaev on points to win the PBA welterweight title.
