A Welsh third-tier club has suspended one of its players and said police were investigating an incident during Saturday’s match.

Trearddur Bay says Tom Taylor has been suspended with immediate effect after he appeared to punch a Porthmadog FC player in the face.

The alleged incident occurred during an Ardal North West League match between the two amateur clubs on January 17.

Footage circulating on social media appears to show Taylor elbowing a Porthmadog player in the face during the match at Way Heritage (The Beach) Stadium in Gwynedd.

A club statement read: “Trearddur Bay FC would like to confirm that Tom Taylor has been suspended with immediate effect following an incident between TBFC and Porthmadog FC yesterday.”

He added: “As the matter is the subject of a police investigation, the club will not be making any further comment at this stage.”

“The club in no way condones the use of illegal behavior by its employees or players,” they added.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) confirmed to BBC Sport Wales that it is looking into the matter.

A statement read: “Third tier matches fall within the FAW’s jurisdiction. The FAW is aware of the incident and will review it.”

Match data shows that referee Richard Gwynne Edwards did not issue any red cards during the match, which host Porthmadog won 3-2.

Trearddur Bay Police and North Wales Police have been contacted for comment.
