Polymarket continues its partnership spree with a Major League Baseball deal

Prediction platform Polymarket has been in a bit of a partnership — a trend that continued this week, with a new deal involving Major League Baseball.

MLB announced Thursday that Polymarket will be its official prediction market partner, an appointment that will allow the site to have exclusive access to official league data as well as use MLB logos in its products. The announcement notes that the site will also receive “brand exposure” at games and through the league’s digital channels.

Meanwhile, MLB also signed a memorandum of understanding with Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Michael Selig. The memorandum states that the agency, which is charged with overseeing prediction market sites, and the league will exchange information with each other regarding the baseball and prediction markets.

Previously, MLB officials have expressed concern about how prediction markets impact sports fans. In a letter to the CFTC sent last year, the association cited the need for an integrity framework that could regulate how prediction markets influence the game. MLB officials crafted the new Polymarket partnership as a way to ensure integrity standards are enforced.

Once banned from operating in the US, Polymarket has been on a hot streak since September, when the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) eased previous regulatory barriers that allowed the company to operate in the US. Since then, the company has announced major data partnerships with tech giants like Google and Palantir, as well as sports partnerships with the likes of Major League Soccer, Major League Hockey and media companies.
