Prem “The Far End”: Experience for the Leicester vs. Northampton match

The Prem’s ‘away ends’ experience in League One Rugby is set to be given its biggest show yet when a dedicated area of ​​Leicester’s Mattioli Woods Welford Road is handed over to Northampton fans for the East Midlands derby on May 9.

This fixture, one of the most anticipated fixtures on both clubs’ calendars, is likely to have ramifications for play-off qualification and seeding, with Saints currently top of the standings, with Leicester in third place.

Leicester’s match away to Sale the following weekend will also feature an ‘away end’ concept, with Tigers fans given the option of sitting en masse with other traveling fans.

The idea, which aims to improve the atmosphere, was trialled last season in the Saracens v Gloucester and Leicester v Harlequins matches.

However, this is not a full football-style session, and visiting fans still have the freedom to choose seats in other parts of the stadium to sit among the home team’s supporters.

“Last season’s experience has given us insight into how remote fan zones can elevate the matchday experience and improve the on-screen product for broadcast audiences,” said Rob Calder, chief growth officer at the Prem.

“We want to create a greater atmosphere, fuel the passion for the competition and give fans an unforgettable experience when they come to Gallagher Premier matches.”
