More than 100 fan groups have urged Premier League clubs to freeze domestic ticket prices for the next two seasons.
For the 2024-25 season, 19 of the 20 clubs in England’s top flight have raised ticket prices, while 13 clubs have also done so this season, prompting 116 supporter organizations to call for a halt to further increases.
Clubs are required to freeze prices for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons, share data on ticket prices and policies with fans, and hold discussions with fans about future prices.
A message published on the Football Fans Association website, external “High prices make it difficult for ordinary fans, especially younger generations and working-class communities, to attend matches,” the statement read.
He also highlights the challenges posed by changing kick-off times to suit television broadcasters, adding: “Match days have never been more difficult to plan, or more expensive to attend.”
The report goes on to say that clubs need to “stop the arms race” over tickets, and that “£3bn transfer windows, soaring agent fees and record wages will not be paid for by increases in ticket prices. We understand the commercial realities – but that is exactly why we need to stop the increases and work together on a more balanced approach.”
The document also described the current £30 cap on overseas tickets as a “landmark agreement” that demonstrated the potential for evaluating ticket price costs.
The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust – one of the signatories to the letter – added: “After two consecutive years of higher-than-inflation ticket price hikes that have hit fans hard, the message is clear: Chelsea must now halt further increases in home ticket prices.”
“By signing this statement, we are standing up for a Stamford Bridge that remains accessible, inclusive and vibrant with the fans who make Chelsea what it is today and for generations to come.”
