It was an easy start to Littler’s semi-final clash with Van Gerwen, with the Dutchman taking time to warm up after receiving a bye due to Gian van Veen having to withdraw due to kidney stones.

But Van Gerwen lit up the blue touch with wins by 12 and 11 darts to go 4-3 ahead, and it sparked some absolute chaos at the darts as the two exchanged some electric darts – and a maximum of two goals.

Littler is known for hitting the “big fish” but missed his first attempt at a maximum of 170 points in the match.

Surprisingly, Van Gerwen also sat on 170 in the same leg and hit the 20-and-a-bull hat-trick to show his rival how it’s done – and move one leg away from victory in the process.

However, Littler was not to be outdone, and the 170 made a score of his own as he battled back to force a decider in the first leg, after the three-time world champion missed two darts.

And when Van Gerwen missed another darts match, the Warrington-born teenager leapt to victory in what was one of the tournament’s matches to date.

If it was a memorable match, it was an unforgettable night for Josh Rock as he remained winless in his first season in the Premier League – a seventh loss being his most embarrassing.

The Northern Irishman was booed at every throw by the Dublin crowd as he was beaten 6-0 by a ruthless Price.

Rock has endured a disastrous first season in the Premier League, and at this level it is difficult to see where his first point will come from.
