Premier League: Who is one card away from being suspended?

Lewis Dunk became the first player in the 2025-2026 Premier League season to receive a two-match ban for receiving 10 yellow cards.

The Brighton & Hove Albion defender was booked for stopping time in his side’s 2-1 win over Liverpool, meaning he reached the threshold for disciplinary action for the second time this season, having already served a one-match ban for receiving five bookings before January 3.

Several other Premier League players who were on the verge of a one-match ban after picking up four yellow cards have found themselves on safer ground since that date, which saw the ban threshold rise from five to 10 yellow cards.

Up to that point in the season, players had been suspended for one match for picking up five yellow cards in their team’s first 19 Premier League matches.

But after 19 matches, the ban changed to 10 yellow cards, but with a more severe penalty. Players who receive 10 yellow cards before the end of the 32nd match are subject to a two-match ban instead of one.

The total yellow cards received before 3 January are carried forward to the next stage of matches, but players who have received four yellow cards are no longer one card away from being suspended until they reach nine yellow cards.

If any player receives 15 yellow cards in one season, he will be suspended for three matches.

Four players are currently one yellow card away from a two-match ban, and a number of players are also just two yellow cards away from being suspended.
